GIVING BACK MADE SIMPLE
Giving back to the communities we serve is foundational to credit unions. Our care for the community is part of what makes us different, and better! In keeping with the beloved credit union philosophy of “People Helping People,” the Illinois Credit Union League is here to be a helpful resource and champion for your community outreach efforts.
Here you will find everything you need to make giving back simple, so you can focus on having fun doing good!
CU Kind
CU Kind has become so much more than one day of giving back, it is a representation of the commitment we make every day when we put people over profits. To further assist you in your year-round outreach work, we have expanded our CU Kind resources so you have more tools at your disposal and developed additional coordinated opportunities to be involved in.
ICUL’s third annual CU Kind Day on October 11, 2021, brought together a record sixty-six Illinois credit unions and partners; 2,700 volunteers; and helped support 322 community organizations. This cooperative effort generated more than $80,000 in goods and donations!

BE LIKE DORA
Dora Maxwell was an early credit union pioneer and was one of the original signers of CUNA’s constitutions at Estes Park in Colorado. She worked as an organizer for the movement’s trade association and held numerous volunteer positions at the local and national level. In addition to organizing hundreds of credit unions, she developed volunteer organizer clubs and worked with organizations on behalf of the poor.
To celebrate her exceptional dedication to volunteerism and credit unions, CUNA named an award after her – the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award. This award is given to a credit union or chapter for its social responsibility projects within the community.
