We're proud to share that the Illinois Credit Union League has sent a strong letter to Treasury Secretary Bessent, urging the full retention of the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund. Click here to view the full letter.

In light of the recent Executive Order aimed at reducing federal bureaucracy, we emphasized the critical role the CDFI Fund plays in supporting rural and low-income communities.

Here's why we're fighting for it:

• Proven Success: The CDFI Fund is a highly effective investment of taxpayer dollars, driving financial stability and success for Americans.
• Community Impact: In Illinois alone, 16 credit unions are CDFI-designated, delivering vital services like financial literacy, credit building, and access to affordable financial products.
• Holistic Approach: The Fund's programs work together seamlessly, from certification to training and grant distribution, ensuring accountability and effectiveness.
• Hand-Up, Not Hand-Out: The CDFI Fund empowers individuals and families to achieve long-term financial well-being.  
• Bipartisan Support: The CDFI fund has long enjoyed strong bipartisan support.  

We believe eliminating these programs would disrupt a vital system that strengthens communities. We've urged Secretary Bessent to advocate for the CDFI Fund's full retention.
