Springfield, Illinois – April 21, 2026 – The Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) convened more than 100 credit union leaders, advocates, and partners for its annual State Legislative Summit, bringing together 116 attendees representing 53 credit unions and organizations to advance policy discussions critical to Illinois credit unions and the members they serve.
As part of the Summit, ICUL proudly recognized Representative Margaret Croke and Senator Mark Walker as its 2026 Credit Union Legislative Champions, honoring their leadership, partnership, and continued advocacy on issues impacting credit unions and consumers across Illinois. The recognition was presented during ICUL’s Interchange Fee Prohibition Act panel, where both lawmakers shared perspectives on legislative priorities affecting financial institutions and the communities they support.
“Representative Croke and Senator Walker have consistently demonstrated a strong understanding of the credit union difference and the importance of preserving access to affordable financial services,” said Libby Calderone, President & CEO of the Illinois Credit Union League. “Their leadership and willingness to engage on complex policy issues make a meaningful impact on our movement and on the members credit unions serve every day.”
“It is an honor to be named the Illinois Credit Union League’s Legislator of the Year,” said Representative Margaret Croke. “Credit unions are essential partners in building strong and stable communities, expanding access to financial services, supporting working families, and fueling local economic growth. I value our continued partnership and remain committed to advancing policies that support financial opportunity for communities throughout Illinois.”
Senator Mark Walker echoed those sentiments, highlighting the role credit unions play across the state. “Credit unions are part of the fabric of Illinois and always focus on the health and growth of their members and communities,” Walker said. “I am happy to support them.”
Throughout the day, attendees participated in a robust agenda featuring updates on interchange, regulatory and Community Reinvestment Act developments, electronic lien and title advancements, and emerging legislative issues. ICUL was honored to welcome Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Secretary Mario Treto who engaged in thoughtful conversation with Calderone, shedding light on topics of interest to credit unions. Secretary Treto expressed appreciation for the League’s continued commitment to collaboration with IDFPR on behalf of credit unions throughout Illinois.
The State Legislative Summit included visits to the Illinois State Capitol, where participants met directly with lawmakers to discuss priority issues impacting credit unions and their members, followed by an evening legislative reception bringing together credit union advocates and state leaders.
